HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK

No. 7 South Side Bee Branch (4-0) at NO. 2 CEDAR RIDGE (5-0): South Side, in its first season of football, has impressed as 1 of the 4 unbeaten 8-man teams and now faces its toughest test thus far on the road. Case Walls and Jacob Mahan combined for more than 130 yards in the Hornets’ 66-20 win over Guy-Perkins. They will have to match the efforts of Cedar Ridge standouts Aiden Jones, Jonas Elms and Jace McNeil

WEEK 6 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS and highlighted)

CORNING (5-1) at Dermott (1-4): The Bobcats rode an outstanding defensive performance led by Jakob Cox (16 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception) and Leonard Bailey (14 tackles, 2 sacks) in a 48-8 win over Subiaco Academy. Dermott, coming off a 36-0 loss to Brinkley, has lost 3 in a row, including back-to-back shutout defeats.

Guy-Perkins (0-4) at NO. 2 RECTOR (2-1): Guy-Perkins scored 20 points last Friday, its best offensive outing of the season in a loss to rival crosstown foe South Side Bee Branch. It does not get any easier for the Thunderbirds, who travel to play the defending sanctioned state champions Friday. Seniors Grayson Bryant (194 yards rushing, 3 TDs) and Dalton Lamar (12 tackles, 3 for loss with a sack) helped Rector rebound from its first loss since 2022 with a 52-20 over Augusta.

Hermitage (0-3) at WOODLAWN (3-2): Woodlawn fell to top-ranked Strong 52-14. The Bears expect to get back on track this week against Hermitage, which is still searching for its first win, while also aiming to stay healthy.

Lee Academy at SUBIACO ACADEMY (3-3): A long road trip turned into an even longer evening as the Trojans fell 48-8 to unsanctioned top-ranked Corning. The junior duo of John Crank and Landon Koch have led the Trojans thus far.

ROSE BUD (1-5) at Marshall (2-4): Marshall has dropped 4 of its past 5 games, while Rose Bud is coming off its first win as Herschal Hart (161 yards rushing, 2 TDs) led the Ramblers over Southwest Christian Academy. Marshall aims for revenge on its home field after Rose Bud took down Marshall in last year’s regular-season finale.

Marvell (3-2) at NO. 1 STRONG (2-0): Credit to Marvell for picking up a game against sanctioned No. 2 Cedar Ridge. Marvel lost 24-0, and it does not get any easier for the Mustangs who travel to play the top-ranked sanctioned team this week. Senior standout Kaiden McHenry has compiled more than 500 offensive yards and 9 total touchdowns in 2 games.
