HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
Class 7A No. 5 West Memphis at No. 4 Jonesboro
Both teams looking to improve to 4-0 in the 7A/6A East, with the winner grabbing sole possession of first place. West Memphis has won six straight in this series by an average of 28 points. Jonesboro last beat the Blue Devils 24-20 in 2003.

"West Memphis may be the most well-coached team in the state," Jonesboro coach Randy Coleman says. "Combine that with outstanding talent and you have a team that has dominated our conference for most of the last decade." Senior quarterback Aaron Collins has completed 41 of 73 passes for 567 yards and seven touchdowns this fall, while engineering West Memphis' high-scoring offense (36 points per game). Senior running back Quintin Sparkman paces the Blue Devils with 41 carries for 357 yards (8.7 yards per carry) and three TDs. Senior wingback Deondre Curtis (205 yards, two TDs) and junior receiver Cody Dauksch (182 yards, three TDs) lead with 14 catches apiece. Senior linebacker Stephon Austin, junior LB Clayton Carpenter and senior safety Deontae Mitchell spearhead a veteran defense. Mitchell returned an interception 83 yards and a punt 64 yards for scores in last week's 34-13 win at Searcy. The Blue Devils' only loss came Week 3 to Fort Smith Southside (35-20).

Jonesboro has won its first three conference games by an average of 25 points. Junior QB Moe Malugen has accounted for 1,309 yards and 11 TDs (996 passing, 313 rushing), while junior RB Zac Brooks (797 yards, 11 TDs) averages 8 yards per touch. West Memphis coach Lanny Dauksch says Jonesboro is more balanced on offense this year with Brooks, who "can fly." Dauksch adds that "everybody's braggin' on the linebackers. They've played great defense." Senior linebackers Brad Shearin and Terrence Greer pace the Hurricane with 66 and 51 tackles, respectively. Senior end Derreon Lamb has recorded a team-high five sacks, including two in last week's 49-16 win over Mountain Home. Junior kicker/punter Luke Ferguson averages 42 yards per punt (five of 12 inside the 20-yard line) and has booted 25 of 34 kickoffs for touchbacks, while converting 23 of 23 extra-point attempts. Last year's 53-26 loss at West Memphis was Jonesboro's only blemish in the regular season.
