HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 3 Batesville at No. 13 Wynne
This game usually decides the 5A East title (six times in the past 10 years). Wynne has beaten Batesville four of the past seven seasons, including 17-7 a year ago when Batesville jumped to an early advantage but couldn't run the ball late after Cody Vaughn broke his collarbone.

Vaughn starts at tailback again this season, but sophomores Jordan Childress and Darren Stigger get the bulk of the carries. Vaughn also plays quarterback in some packages and starts at cornerback. Childress, whose uncles Ernie, Tremaine and Tim were all-state running backs for the Pioneers during the past 15 years, has rushed for more than 700 yards this season, including a 10-carry, 139-yard effort against Forrest City a week ago. Stigger has rushed more than 600 yards. Batesville senior receiver/safety Matthew Showalter "has taken his game to a different level over the past three weeks," said Batesville coach Dave King. Showalter, who didn't start at receiver until this season, caught five passes for 180 yards and four TDs in the first half against Forrest City. Showalter, a three-year starter at cornerback, also intercepted two passes and boomed a punt 74 yards. Showalter intercepted three passes at Paragould two weeks ago.

Beebe broke Wynne's two-game conference win streak last week by limiting the Yellowjacket offense to just 33 plays. They lack a workhorse in the backfield, electing to distribute the ball to four seniors: Justin Cobb, Zach Morris, Jerry Perry and Reamill Winfrey. Winfrey and Cobb each have rushed for more than 400 yards, while Morris and Perry have gained more than 300 yards. "They look like the Wynne teams of old," said Batesville coach Dave King. "They are aggressive, the backs run hard and the linemen come off the ball harder than any team we've faced."
