HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 2 Spring Hill at No. 15 Horatio
Spring Hill limps into this key 7-2A game with senior RB/LB Rodrea Jones (ankle) and senior RB/LB Kevin Aaron (shoulder) at less than 100 percent. Spring Hill got past Gurdon 36-34 in overtime last week with senior fullback Colton Capps rushing for 128 yards and a touchdown. Horatio counters with junior quarterback Corey Moreland (5-9, 175) and a balanced attack that raced to a 21-0 lead early last week at Mineral Springs and held on for a 35-26 victory. Moreland, a dual-threat QB, rushed 16 times for 112 yards. His favorite targets include juniors Eluit Salazar and Isauro Gonzalez.

TV SHOW
Hooten's Arkansas Football will NOT air this week, but returns Saturday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. on Fox 16 and KFSM in Fort Smith/Fayetteville.

LAST WEEK
Hooten's correctly picked 18 of 25 games (72 percent) involving Class 2A teams. HAFR is 161-44 (79 percent) for the season.

WEEK 8 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS followed by point spread)
3-2A
AUGUSTA (6) at Cedar Ridge: Augusta on the road for the third week in a row after back-to-back losses at Magnet Cove and McCrory. McCrory made two goal-line stands last week and took advantage of two second-half turnovers to edge Augusta 12-6. Augusta needs a win to stay in three-way tie with McCrory and Walnut Ridge for first place in the 3-2A.
E. POINSETT COUNTY (12) at Salem: EPC junior QB Darius Barnes (5-9, 165) ran 11 times for 244 yards and three TDs and completed 10 of 14 passes for 178 yards and three TDs last week in a 52-20 win over Cedar Ridge. Junior RB/DE Dray Young paced EPC with 10 tackles and two sacks.
MCCRORY (3) at Cross County: Defending league champion McCrory may defend its title, yet, despite losing junior lineman Jamar Clark (6-7, 285) to shoulder surgery. Cross County coach Steve Williams and senior tailback Blake Beasley spent their (open) Friday night watching McCrory turn back Augusta 12-6. Both teams are getting healthy as the playoffs near.
Marked Tree at BIGELOW (10): Bigelow stunned then-No. 3 Magnet Cove 29-22 last week. Bigelow senior LB Tye Kibbons (70 tackles in 2010) collected a team-high 17 tackles despite a sore knee. Senior QB Spencer Langston has passed for 1,067 yards and scored 16 TDs this fall, while senior TB Caleb Carter has rushed for 481 yards and six TDs.
WALNUT RIDGE is open.

4-2A
Decatur at DANVILLE (39): Danville appears a lock for the No. 2 playoff seed, which faces a quality No. 4 seed from the 8-2A (Strong, Norphlet, Parkers Chapel or Junction City) in the first round.
UNION CHRISTIAN (15) at Hartford: Union Christian needs to win out (and it should) to keep slim playoff hopes alive.
J.C. Westside at MAGAZINE (20): Third-ranked Magazine rolls on with Mountainburg coming to Logan County next week.
Western Yell at MOUNTAINBURG (8): Mountainburg ends two-game losing skid. Mountainburg took advantage of Hackett's two second-half turnovers last week to rally from a 20-0 deficit but lost on the last play of the game.
Two Rivers at HACKETT (10): Hackett senior Evan Ray returned an interception 40 yards for a TD and passed 20 yards for a score as time expired last week to knock off Mountainburg 26-20. That forced a three-way tie for third place with Hackett, Mountainburg and J.C. Westside.

5-2A
CONWAY CHRISTIAN (48) at Hector: Conway Christian led Poyen 55-8 at halftime last week. Conway Christian RB Adam Ragland ran 11 times last week for 253 yards and four TDs.
MOUNTAIN PINE (8) at Poyen: Mountain Pine in good shape to grab the No. 3 playoff seed with its Week 5 overtime win over Conway Christian.
Quitman at MAGNET COVE (28): Magnet Cove stinging after 29-22 loss last week at Bigelow. But as the No. 2 seed, Magnet Cove could run to quarterfinals or beyond.

6-2A
Hughes at DES ARC (28): Des Arc expects senior RB/S Cody Robinson (elbow) to return soon. Robinson, with his left arm in a sling, could only watch last week as Carlisle took over first place in the 6-2A by destroying Des Arc 32-0.
England at CLARENDON (2): Clarendon junior QB Jamarlin Jackson returned a kickoff 83 yards for a TD and accounted for 200 yards of offense last week in a mild upset of Hazen. Carlisle beat Clarendon 52-30 Week 5; Carlisle beat England 46-15 Week 6.
Marvell at HAZEN (45): Hazen rebounds after losing 33-30 last week at Clarendon.
Pal.-Wheatley at CARLISLE (39): League front-runner Carlisle ran roughshod over Des Arc (32-0) last week for more than 300 yards, led by senior fullback Ben Walker's 124 yards and two TDs. Carlisle's defense allowed just 126 yards and intercepted two passes.

7-2A
Foreman at MINERAL SPRINGS (25): Mineral Springs must regroup after losing to visiting Horatio 35-26 a week ago. Mineral Springs sophomore RB Rashad Williams (1,299 yards in 2010) ran for 136 yards, but the Hornets trailed 21-0 early and tried to pass more than usual with senior receiver Aron McDonald slowed by an ankle injury.
GURDON (4) at Dierks: Gurdon played closer to its potential last week in a 36-34 overtime loss to Spring Hill. Can the Go-Devils get back up this week at 2-5 Dierks?
Mount Ida at MURFREESBORO (9): Improving Murfreesboro torched Foreman 42-6 last week, one week after allowing 540 yards (311 to sophomore RB Rashad Williams) in a 44-29 loss to Mineral Springs.
SPRING HILL (3)
at Horatio: See Game of the Week.

8-2A
BEARDEN (28) at Hampton: Hampton may be the best one-win team in the state, losing to both Norphlet and Woodlawn by seven points and to Strong by 20 points. Bearden on track to repeat as 8-2A champion with Hampton, Parkers Chapel and Norphlet left on the schedule.
Hermitage at NORPHLET (42): Norphlet forced six turnovers last week in a 27-14 win over Woodlawn. The Leopards beat Hermitage this week, keep pace with the Strong vs. Parkers Chapel winner for second place in the league standings.
JUNCTION CITY (28) at Dermott: Four new linebackers played last week (due to injuries) for Junction City in a 20-0 win at Mountain Pine. Senior Rodney Larry ran for 139 of Junction City's 206 rushing yards.
STRONG (12) at Parkers Chapel: No. 4 Strong's only loss came Week 4 at Bearden. Strong overcame 14 penalties for 102 yards last week in a sloppy 58-37 win over Hampton. Parkers Chapel gave up more than 100 yards to a pair of Woodlawn running backs two weeks ago.
