HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
Class 7A No. 8 Bryant at No. 4 El Dorado
Bryant has won four straight games by an average of 36 points since losing to Pine Bluff 24-21. Coach Paul Calley says his Hornets are looking forward to playing the three-time defending Class 6A state champs. "It's going to be a huge challenge for us but we want to see where we are and gauge what kind of team we have." Senior quarterback Hayden Lessenberry has completed 124 of 199 passes (62 percent) for 1,663 yards and 16 touchdowns this year. Sophomore K.J. Hill leads Bryant with 34 catches for 533 yards and eight TDs and 26 carries for 245 yards and three scores. "They have very good skill players and I'm very impressed with their offensive line," El Dorado coach Scott Reed says. "They're intelligent on defense and their cornerbacks are good." Seniors Tim Kelly and Kordell Boykins anchor the defensive front. Senior linebacker Tyree Reese has played with an achilles injury the past two weeks. Junior Davis Nossaman and sophomore Drew Tipton lead in the secondary.
El Dorado has battled injuries all year but the Wildcats are getting healthier. Senior QB Lucas Reed, senior running back Marque Burris and junior defensive tackle Bijhon Jackson are all nursing ankle injuries. Lucas Reed has passed for more than 1,500 yards and 18 TDs this fall. Senior RB Josh Brock leads El Dorado with close to 700 yards and nine TDs. Senior Sandy Brown paces the Wildcats with 22 catches for 400 yards and six scores. El Dorado allows 11 points per game in league play. Jackson and senior Treven Hall spearhead the front four. Senior linebacker Patrick Seweje sits atop the tackle chart despite missing the first two games with a hamstring injury. Senior Jarvis Davis leads in the secondary. "They're very well-coached and have a lot of tradition," Calley says. "When you have the kind of success they've had, it carries over from year to year."
