HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 6 Carlisle at No. 8 Hazen
Carlisle, with its 15 seniors, travels nine miles east on Highway 70 to rival Hazen for the 6-2A championship. Carlisle hammered Hazen 32-0 last year to claim its first outright title since 1997. Carlisle shut out Hazen two of past three years and has dominated the series, winning 20 times since 1988. In 2009, Hazen beat Carlisle 26-18 in three overtimes to claim its first conference title since 1985.

Carlisle sophomore RB Bo Weddle ran 18 times for 168 yards and three TDs last week in an 18-6 win over (3-2A) McCrory. Weddle has 908 yards this season. Carlisle rushed for 368 yards on 48 carries vs. McCrory. Sophomore Deron Hicks and senior Braxton Petrus have rushed for 500 yards apiece.

Hazen coach Joe Besancon calls senior RB/LB Matt Tenison the heart and soul of the Hornets. Tenison ran for 165 and three TDs last week in a 32-7 win over England, pushing his season total to 1,360 yards on 142 carries (9.6 ypc). Tenison has recorded more than 110 tackles this year. Seniors Cameron Vail and Demonte Anderson have made more than 90 tackles apiece.

WEEK 10 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS followed by point spread)
3-2A
Salem at MCCRORY (2) (Thurs.): The winner grabs the No. 2 playoff seed, while the loser finishes third in the league. McCrory junior RB Logan Best has rushed for 1,796 yards. Salem sophomore QB Dillon Turner has passed for 1,000 yards, including a 12-of-16 performance for 243 yards and five TDs last week vs. Augusta. Sophomore RB J.J. Gray has rushed for more than 1,000 yards, including 147 yards last week.
Augusta at WALNUT RIDGE (26) (Thurs.): Riding four-game winning streak, Walnut Ridge rolls into playoffs and likely travels to No. 8 Hazen in the first round.
CROSS COUNTY (1) at Cedar Ridge (Thurs.): Early-season conference games matter. Cross County's 38-36 Week 2 over Marked Tree, coupled with a win this week at Cedar Ridge, will secure the Thunderbirds the fifth and final playoff seed. Cross County and Marked Tree are tied for fifth place in the 3-2A.
MARKED TREE (35) at Palestine-Wheatley (Thurs.): Probable season finale for two teams that will combine for four wins in 2011.
EPC is open.

4-2A
DANVILLE (25) at J.C. Westside (Thurs.): Danville locks up second seed, likely travels to Carlisle in the second round. Senior playmaker Blake Noakes returned a punt 50 yards for a TD last week in a 43-6 rout of Poyen.
Decatur at MAGAZINE (42): Top-ranked Magazine has won 23 straight, and it clinched a third straight 4-2A title last week by thumping Mountainburg 35-7. Magazine starters held Moutainburg to 112 yards and scoreless through 3.5 quarters. Senior LB Josh Dority led with 11 stops, increasing his season total to 90 tackles.
HACKETT (49) at Hartford: Hackett races to the No. 4 playoff seed behind senior speedster Dylan Yazel (2,338 all-purpose yards), who has not lost a fumble this year. Yazel scores a TD every 5.4 touches and averages 15.8 yards per rushing attempt.
UNION CHRISTIAN (10) at Western Yell: UC secures the fifth and final playoff berth to reach the postseason for the fifth year in a row. A first-round trip to No. 7 Magnet Cove awaits.
Quitman at MOUNTAINBURG (12): Mountainburg appears set as the third playoff seed, likely plays host to 8-2A member Strong in the first round.

5-2A
BIGELOW (11) at Conway Christian: A Conway Christian upset would produce a three-way tie for second place between Bigelow, Conway Christian and Quitman. A Bigelow victory is more likely, and the Panthers would probably play host to Mount Ida in the first round of the playoffs. Conway Christian QB Tanner Stevenson has passed for 2,019 yards this fall.
Quitman at MOUNTAINBURG (12): Barring a Conway Christian upset of Bigelow, Quitman will secure the No. 3 playoff seed with a potentially intriguing first-round matchup at Des Arc.
MAGNET COVE (17) at Two Rivers (Thurs.): A week ago, Conway Christian joined the growing list of teams that could not slow down Magnet Cove and its senior RB Jeff Pinkston (1,774 yards in 2011). Pinkston ran for 112 yards and Magnet Cove ended Conway Christian's six-game win streak, 54-20.
HAMPTON (8) at Poyen (Thurs.): Hampton gets the No. 5 playoff seed from the 8-2A and travels to top-ranked Magazine in the first round. Poyen wins three games in its second year of varsity football after winning two in 2010.
MOUNTAIN PINE (22) at Hector: Mountain Pine knocked off Two Rivers 18-16 last week and notches its second win of the season at Hector (1-7, 0-6).

6-2A
CARLISLE (6) at Hazen: See 2A Game of the Week.
Clarendon at DES ARC (10): A Clarendon upset would force a three-way tie for third in the 6-2A between Des Arc, England and Clarendon. A Des Arc victory earns the Eagles a first-round playoff game at home, likely against Quitman.
Marvell at ENGLAND (35) (Thurs.): England's signature win this season came Week 3 over Class 4A Southside Batesville 22-14. England could change that with a first-round victory at Salem or McCrory in the first round.
MARKED TREE (35) at Palestine-Wheatley (Thurs.): Probable season finale for two teams that will combine for four wins in 2011.

7-2A
Dierks at MINERAL SPRINGS (20) (Thurs.): Mineral Springs junior RB Rashad Williams returned to full speed last week and ran fro 246 yards and three TDs against Spring Hill.
Foreman at HORATIO (28) (Thurs.): Horatio, the coaches' pick to win the league, finishes 2-5 in the 7-2A and misses the playoffs.
SPRING HILL (6) at Murfreesboro (Thurs.): Spring Hill could not slow down Mineral Springs and RB Rashad Williams (246 yards) last week in a 44-8 loss. But the Bears should fare better this week against Murfreesboro, which managed 176 yards a week ago in a 42-6 loss to Gurdon.
GURDON (12) at Mount Ida: Six Gurdon running backs combined for 226 of Gurdon's 271 rushing yards last week against Murfreesboro. Sophomore QB Austin Kirkpatrick has rushed for 496 yards this season and completed 59 of 83 passes (71 percent) for 744 yards and nine TDs with three interceptions. Senior tight end Zach Gooding leads the team with 16 receptions. Freshman TB Dewayne Marlow (743 yards), senior scatback A.J. Brown (503 yards) pace the Gurdon rushing attack.

8-2A
Woodlawn at STRONG (16) (Thurs.): Strong keeps Woodlawn winless in league play and locks up the No. 3 playoff seed, sending it to Mountainburg in the first round. Third-ranked Junction City, No. 4 Bearden and No. 19 Parkers Chapel held Strong's Kenneth Dixon in check, but the senior has run wild most Friday nights, including 274 yards (8.6 ypc) last week in a 32-16 win over Norphlet.
Norphlet at BEARDEN (19): Bearden has beaten Norphlet 21 of the past 22 meetings, historian Jackie Bevill reports. Norphlet has played with 15 players most of the season. Bearden, with four starters out last week, shut out Parkers Chapel 35-0, holding the Trojans to seven first downs and 138 yards.
Parkers Chapel at JUNCTION CITY (31): Junction City captures the league crown, its 14th in school history. The Dragons rushed for 393 yards last week in a 42-0 win over Hampton, marking their third game this season to average more than 11 yards per rushing attempt. Parkers Chapel, with wins over No. 7 Magnet Cove and No. 17 Strong, misses the playoffs.
HAMPTON (8) at Poyen: Hampton gets the No. 5 playoff seed from the 8-2A and travels to top-ranked Magazine in the first round. Poyen wins three games in its second year of varsity football after winning two in 2010.
