HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 17 Harrisburg at No. 16 Arkansas Baptist
Harrisburg has lost four of its past five road games, beginning with last year's 20-12 quarterfinal loss at Harding Academy. The Hornets dropped their season-opener for the first time since 2006, 24-14 at Cross County (4-5 and not in the Class 2A playoffs). But Harrisburg reeled off seven straight wins, including a 14-12 victory over Earle in Week 5. Two weeks ago, the Hornets trailed No. 1 Rivercrest by two points late in the fourth quarter before the Colts scored to seal the victory. Harrisburg senior quarterback Zach Davis has passed for 9,584 yards and 105 touchdowns in his career, including 3,163 yards and 34 TDs this year. Davis needs 90 yards to pass Shiloh Christian's Matt Simpson for fifth place all-time. "They are well-coached and do things offensively and defensively that will give us trouble," said Arkansas Baptist coach Brad Helm.

Arkansas Baptist, the No. 2 seed from the 2-3A, knew it had the size and speed to compete for a league title in a new conference this year (7-7 in 5-3A play from 2008-09). But few expected the Eagles to win nine games by an average of 34 points under first-year coach Brad Helm, who spent five years at Springdale with Gus Malzahn before arriving at Baptist as offensive coordinator in 2006. The Eagles' only loss came at Harding Academy 42-21 in Week 5. Sophomore QB Jack Easby-Smith has accounted for 2,335 yards and 31 TDs this season. Senior running back Jon Moon paces the Eagles with 73 carries for 845 yards (11.6 yards per carry) and 14 TDs, while junior Ryan Perkins has 45 catches for 559 yards and five TDs. Baptist allows 15 points per game behind the solid play of junior end Drake Newkirk (6-4, 215), senior linebacker Harrison Files (team-high 79 tackles) and senior defensive back Markham Roberson (four interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a blocked punt).
