STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP

State champion Booneville finished a wire-to-wire run as Class 3A's top team with a resounding 35-0 win over Osceola on Saturday afternoon. Booneville senior fullback Carson Ray battered Osceola for 165 yards and two touchdowns to earn game MVP honors. It's Booneville's fourth state title (1986, 2000, 2013 and 2018) in school history. The Bearcats allowed Osceola only 152 yards and turned three turnovers into 21 points. Booneville finished 15-0 despite the loss of senior All-State quarterback Brandon Ulmer in the team's Week Zero victory against Class 5A Clarksville. Booneville's closest wins this year were a two-point victory Week 2 against Class 4A Pottsville and a 3-point semifinal win over Prescott. The Bearcats outscored opponents 42-12 weekly. Booneville is the seventh team to finish 15-0 in Class 3A since the current six-classification started in 2006.
Under second-year coach Robert Hooks (24-5 at school), Osceola appeared in the final for the first time since 1998. The state final loss snapped Osceola's 11-game winning streak.
