CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
No. 2 Glen Rose vs. No. 1 Charleston
Glen Rose has advanced to the finals for the second straight season and third time in seven years. The Beavers eliminated Charleston in 2007 and 2012 on their way to the title game. Charleston's chasing its fourth state title in nine years. The Tigers won it all in 2005, 2008 and 2011.
Glen Rose ran smack over Smackover last week in a 54-24 rout, building a 34-6 halftime lead behind junior running back Carlos Burton's 170 yards and three touchdowns. He finished with 17 carries for 245 yards and five scores. Burton leads Glen Rose this fall with 173 carries for 2,267 yards (13.1 yards per carry) and 37 TDs. Senior linebacker and Farm Bureau Awards Class 3A Defensive Player of the Year finalist Kyle Petersen paces the Beavers with 121 tackles and eight interceptions. Senior defensive tackles Zach Lankford (5-10, 265) and Drake Lackey (5-10, 245) anchor the front four.
Charleston clobbered Earle 46-8 last week with 311 yards passing and three TDs from junior quarterback Ty Storey. Storey has completed 250 of 373 passes (67 percent) for 3,834 yards and 45 TDs this year. He passed for 375 yards and three TDs in last year's 31-28 loss to Glen Rose. The difference in this year's matchup could be senior RB Austin Pittman. Pittman paces the Tigers this season with close to 800 yards and 16 TDs. Senior receiver and Farm Bureau Awards Class 3A Offensive Player of the Year finalist Chance Shelby leads Charleston with 72 catches for 1,266 yards and 21 TDs.
