Sellers accounts for four touchdowns as Alexandria tops Bryant

ALEXANDRIA, La. — Karsen Sellers threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores as Alexandria built a 34-0 halftime lead and defeated Bryant 44-20 Friday night at J.L. “Butch” Stoker Stadium.

The Trojans scored on their first four offensive possessions. After stopping Bryant on fourth down, Alexandria needed two plays to score, with Sellers finding Reggie Monroe for a 40-yard touchdown.

Sellers finished the next possession with an 18-yard touchdown run. Kason Williams had extended that drive by converting fourth-and-inches on a direct snap. The Trojans led 13-0 after the conversion failed.

Williams opened the second quarter with a 38-yard touchdown run, completing an 86-yard drive. Sellers added a 3-yard scoring run before Julius Sykes-Veal recovered a high punt snap in the end zone for Alexandria’s fifth touchdown. Alexandria’s defense forced five punts in the first half.

Bryant’s defense opened the second half with a fourth-and-one stop, with defensive end Samuel Nelson meeting Noble Williams in the backfield.

Quarterback Kyler Shelby followed with a 47-yard touchdown run. The Hornets then forced a punt, and Shelby connected with Crews Thomason for a 48-yard touchdown. The extra point cut Alexandria’s lead to 34-13.

Sellers answered with a seven-play, 75-yard drive, finding Alex Fontenot for a 23-yard touchdown on third-and-three. Eli Fung’s extra point made it 41-13 before the third quarter ended.

Fung added a 37-yard field goal in the fourth. Ja’Kyrin Griffin intercepted a pass in the end zone on Bryant’s next possession.

Terriun Jones returned a fumble for Bryant’s final touchdown after a high shotgun snap. Alexandria received the kickoff and ended the game with a kneeldown.

Sellers completed 16 of 24 passes for 212 yards. Kason Williams rushed for 116 yards on nine carries, while Noble Williams added 124 yards on 20 attempts. Fontenot caught six passes for 89 yards.

  • Terriun Jones, Bryant, free safety/cornerback: One fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. Collected the loose ball after Alexandria’s high shotgun snap and scored Bryant’s final touchdown in the fourth quarter.
