Maumelle beats Hot Springs 34–19 for Vaughn’s first win
Maumelle built a 34–7 lead through three quarters and defeated Hot Springs 34–19 Friday at Trojan Field, giving Nick Vaughn his first victory as the Hornets’ head coach.
Amir Armour opened the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run after carrying 37 yards on the previous play. Ka’marion Hamilton recovered a fumble on Hot Springs’ first offensive snap, setting up Dylan Moran’s 35-yard field goal for a 10–0 lead. Brody Quast answered with a touchdown run, and Erick Luna’s extra point cut the deficit to 10–7.
Levi Warrior converted third-and-17 with a 55-yard touchdown pass to his brother, Isaac, in the second quarter. Winchell Wiggins added a touchdown run with 1:40 remaining before halftime, sending Maumelle into the break ahead 24–7.
Warrior found Jacob Torian for a 13-yard touchdown with 8:26 left in the third quarter. Jayden Baker intercepted Quast in the end zone on Hot Springs’ next possession. Moran’s 30-yard field goal with 14 seconds left in the quarter extended the lead to 34–7.
Asher Tillman scored on a short run with 9:44 remaining, and Quast connected with Daquan Johnson for another touchdown at 6:31. Both two-point attempts failed; Baker tackled the receiver short of the goal line on the second try.
Hot Springs reached first-and-goal at the eight on its final possession. Bryce Mooney stopped Latrell Parks behind the line and tackled Tillman short of the end zone before Quast’s fourth-down pass to Jake Dennis was ruled incomplete because Dennis landed out of bounds.
Warrior finished 6 of 17 for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Isaac Warrior caught three passes for 94 yards. Wiggins rushed for 82 yards and Armour added 60. Quast threw for 152 yards and rushed for 85, accounting for two touchdowns. Maumelle gained 312 yards without a turnover; Hot Springs finished with 346 total yards.
