HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 5 Carlisle at No. 3 Hazen

Carlisle has won 19 of the past 21 in this series. Carlisle gutsy senior RB Travis Harrison and junior WB Blake Perkins lead the Bison with 800 rushing yards apiece. Junior D.J. Miller has rushed for more than 700 yards. Harrison touched the football three times last week in a 29-0 win over Hughes and scored all three times on 7- and 24-yard runs and a 64-yard reception. Senior LB Alex Reid and junior Caleb Carpenter rank No. 1 and 2 on the Carlisle tackle chart. Hazen counters with a deep and talented backfield featuring sophomores Matt Tenison, Devin Bonds and Cameron Vail. Hazen senior defensive linemen Kendall Cook (6-0, 260) and Darius Mosby (5-10, 215) have played well.

HOOTENS TV SHOW
Hooten's Arkansas Football airs at 11 a.m. Saturday on KFSM Ch. 5 in Fort Smith/Fayetteville and Today's THV 11 in Little Rock, featuring Carlisle at Hazen. Hackett senior Zac Glover will be featured as the Arkansas Air Guard Scholar Athlete of the Week.

WEEK 10 PREDICTIONS (favored team in CAPS followed by point spread.)
3-2A

E. POINSETT COUNTY (7) at Cedar Ridge: EPC, which had captured league title three of the past five years, was expected to make the playoffs in 2009 but defections and a late coaching change sent the Warriors reeling. Cedar Ridge wins two games in second year of varsity football after winless 2008.
Rector at MARKED TREE (24): Marked Tree misses the playoffs for the first time since 2003-2004.
Augusta at WALNUT RIDGE (1): The winner grabs the No. 2 playoff seed. A healthy Bennett Dudley paced Walnut Ridge with 117 yards and two TDs last week in a 20-8 win over EPC. Walnut Ridge needs ball-control on offense and an accurate punter and kicker because Augusta speedster Ishma Clark is a threat to return every punt or kickoff he fields for a TD.
Salem at McCRORY (28): McCrory, which did not field a varsity team in 2003-2004, earns its first league title since 1997 and completes its first unbeaten regular season since 1977. In '77, the Jaguars won the former 2-2A South and finished 12-1, losing in the semifinals to eventual state champion Parkin 20-14. McCrory went 11-1-1 in 1976.
Marvell at CROSS COUNTY (13): Cross County receives forfeit from Marvell (down to seven players), heads to Conway Christian in the first round of the playoffs. Without a junior high program, Marvell appears headed for basketball-only status.

4-2A
MAGAZINE (35) at J.C. Westside: No. 13 Magazine has locked up the 4-2A top playoff seed. Magazine lost at No. 10 Murfreesboro 37-20 last week when Magazine's Cory Chambers caught six passes for 99 yards and a TD. Western Yell beat J.C. Westside 27-0 last week after scoring 22 points in the previous seven games combined.
Western Yell at HACKETT (2): Western Yell County won its first home game ever last week, dropping J.C. Westside 27-0. Every team in the 4-2A goes to the playoffs.
Union Christian at MOUNT IDA (6): Mount Ida wins non-conference finale, heads into off-season on high note. No. 18 Union Christian will play host to No. 28 Clarendon in a competitive first-round matchup.

5-2A
Bigelow at CUTTER M STAR (2): Cutter M. Star earns second playoff berth in school history. After first-round exit, Eagles fly to Class 3A next year.
Mountain Pine at DANVILLE (6): Little Johns claim first league title since 2002 and reach the playoffs for the 32nd time since 1970. Danville should reach quarterfinals before running into No. 2 Junction City on the road. As the No. 2 seed, Mountain Pine goes to No. 6 McCrory in the second round of the playoffs.
Quitman at TWO RIVERS (37): Two Rivers Gators fell short last week at Conway Christian (36-34) and likely slip to the No. 5 seed. The Gators would travel in the first round to No. 13 Magazine where the Rattlers hunger for their first postseason win in school history.
CONWAY CHRISTIAN receives forfeit from Hector, probably plays host to Cross County in the first round of the playoffs.
Union Christian at MOUNT IDA (6): Mount Ida wins non-conference finale, heads into off-season on high note. No. 18 Union Christian will play host to No. 28 Clarendon in a competitive first-round matchup.

6-2A
CARLISLE (2) at Hazen: See 2A Game of the Week.
Clarendon at DES ARC (16): Des Arc needs a test before the postseason and Clarendon, paced by super sophomore QB Jamarlin Jackson (900 rushing yards), is capable. Des Arc has an excellent opportunity to earn the top playoff seed, if Carlisle defeats Hazen for the 20th time in the past 23 meetings. If Des Arc gets the 6-2A top seed, the Eagles will face solid teams from the 8-2A in the first and second rounds. That will make up for the lack of competition in the regular-season when Des Arc received three forfeits resulting in three open weeks.
Hughes at PAL-WHEATLEY (10): Palestine-Wheatley keeps Hughes (down to 13 players) winless and gains the 6-2A fifth and final playoff berth.

7-2A
Spring Hill at MURFREESBORO (3): Murfreesboro captures its first league title since 1996, gets a first-round bye and plays host to No. 2 Junction City Week 12. Spring Hill RB Rodrea Jones eclipsed 1,000 yards for the season in last week's 14-8 win over Mineral Springs. Murfreesboro senior Garrett Gills has amassed 1,266 all-purpose yards, including a team-high 45 receptions for 529 yards and 11 TDs. Murfreesboro kicker Russell Tshisumpa has kicked three of six field goals, including a 43-yarder.
Dierks at MINERAL SPRINGS (2): Mineral Springs needs to beat Dierks to claim the league's fourth playoff seed and a probable first-round win over 4-2A member Hackett. Then comes the Week 12 trip to No. 1 Bearden.
Foreman at HORATIO (13): Horatio earns consecutive playoff berths after missing the postseason from 1999-2007. Due to its Week 7 win over Mineral Springs, Horatio should earn the third playoff seed but face a first-round exit when 6-2A muscle team travels to Horatio.
Union Christian at MOUNT IDA (6): Mount Ida wins non-conference finale, heads into off-season on high note. No. 18 Union Christian will play host to No. 28 Clarendon in a competitive first-round matchup.

8-2A
Hampton at JUNCTION CITY (45): Defending state champion Dragons have clear path to state semifinals.
Hermitage at STRONG (18): Strong likely the No. 4 seed and could advance past the first round.
WOODLAWN (13) at Dermott: Due to its Week 2 win over Strong and Monday night's win over Smackover, Woodlawn grabs the third playoff seed and should advance past the first round of the playoffs.
Norphlet at SMACKOVER (10): Hooten's preseason No. 7 Smackover has not met expectations but could redeem itself in the playoffs.
BEARDEN is open.
