TOP HALF OF THE BRACKET
Magnet Cove at MAGAZINE (2): Magazine employs an ultra-quick defense that allows just 12 points per game, and its starters have allowed even fewer than that. Magazine's first-team defense held Carlisle to 143 yards and six points last week in a 41-20 victory. Junior LB Josh Dority (4.6 speed), who forced two fumbles against Carlisle, paces the Rattlers with 127 tackles. Junior CB Cory Chambers has intercepted nine passes, and he leads the Rattlers in receiving with 562 yards and seven TDs. Junior QB Ryan Chambers has completed 50 percent of his passes for 947 yards and 16 TDs. Ryan Chambers (7.6 ypc) burned Carlisle for 166 yards on 10 carries. He has rushed for 1,166 yards and 11 TDs this season.  Senior fullback John Terry has rushed for 525 and eight TDs. Senior Chang Yang (4-11, 125) has run for 400 yards, while twin Long Yang (10 ypc) has rushed for almost 500 yards. In the second half of the 34-26, third-round win over Strong, Magazine fumbled twice inside the Strong 10-yard line and had a TD run negated by a holding penalty.

Magnet Cove mirrors Magazine with a speedy defense that flies to the football. Senior all-state athlete Josh Scott (5-10, 210) makes plays as a place-kicker, deep-snapper, guard and linebacker. Scott (100 tackles) was all over the field last week at Spring Hill, racking up a team-high 13 tackles, including the initial hit on Spring Hill TB Rodrea Jones on fourth down in OT to preserve the win. Scott has intercepted four passes, returning one for TD against Two Rivers and another 45 yards for a TD Week 4 in a 34-21 win at Parkers Chapel. Magnet Cove's balanced attack features sophomore QB Hunter Linam, who completed 15 of 27 passes for 176 yards with no interceptions at Spring Hill. Linam completed an efficient eight of 11 pass attempts for 111 yards and three TDs in a 40-8 first-round blowout of Augusta. Linam completed nine of 17 passes for three TDs in a 41-22 win at McCrory. Junior Jeff Pinkston paces a balanced running attack with 1,239 yards (10 ypc) and 18 TDs. Pinkston ran for 120 yards and three TDs at Spring Hill. Senior RB Taylor Bray has rushed for 898 yards and 13 TDs. The Panthers have defeated Quitman (54-28), Conway Christian (42-8), Two Rivers (42-0), Augusta (40-8), McCrory (41-22) and Spring Hill (28-21 in OT) since a Week 7 hiccup (29-22 loss) at Bigelow where they committed six turnovers, losing two fumbles inside their 15-yard line and two inside the Bigelow 20.

BOTTOM HALF OF THE BRACKET
Danville at BEARDEN (10): Bearden leads the entire state in scoring defense (8.8 ppg), paced by junior LB Tyler Crouse (101 tackles, 11 TFL), senior LB Dermarcie Berry (96 tackles, 14 TFLs, 2 sacks), senior end Alan Holmes (52 tackles, 6 TFL, 2 sacks, 2 INTs), senior cornerback Blain Harris (four INTs) and sophomore end B.J. Ross (67 tackles, 10 TFL, 3 sacks). Bearden intercepted four passes last week in a 21-14 win at Bigelow with two TDs negated by legitimate penalties. Junior QB Defonta Lowe operates Bearden's Single Wing and Spread attacks. Lowe accounted for 225 of Bearden's 301 total yards last week at Bigelow and intercepted two passes from his safety position. For the season, Lowe has rushed for 1,459 yards (10 ypc) and 23 TDs and completed 57 of 83 passes for 1,136 yards. Bearden beat Junction City (27-8) two weeks ago for the second time this fall to advance. The Bears rolled up 273 yards vs. Junction City after piling up 317 yards Week 6 in a 35-8 win at Junction City.

Danville senior end Trey Bailey (6-0, 200) paces the Little John defense with 13 sacks and more than 90 tackles. Bailey terrorized Mineral Springs last week in a 35-14 victory with 12 tackles, including seven tackles for loss. Passing teams that do not double-team Bailey normally pay for it in QB pressures and sacks. Danville held Mineral Springs super sophomore tailback Rashad Williams (2,305 yards in 2010) to 83 yards on 22 attempts. The Little Johns are explosive on offense with junior RBs Sean Tyra (770 yards, 11 TDs), Blake Noakes (560 yards, 6 TDs), Jaylen Ester (611 yards, 11 TDs) and Dadrian Ester (264 rushing yards; 239 receiving yards), senior receiver Mike Mims (26 receptions for 538 yards, 7 TDs) and senior place-kicker Ulises Gutierrez (9 of 15 FGs). Gutierrez kicked a 39-yard field goal into the wind in a 52-16 blowout of Norphlet. Noakes has returned six punts for TDs this fall. Noakes ran three times three weeks ago for 128 yards and two TDs in a 50-15 blowout of Horatio.
