HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 10 Carlisle at No. 8 Des Arc
Des Arc beat Carlisle 30-22 in two overtimes last year. In that game, Des Arc quarterback Justin Hollis (4.5 speed) took over by running for two touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Hollis has already done that this year (Week 4), passing for two TDs to rally Des Arc past Hazen 13-12. The senior has rushed for 524 yards and seven TDs and passed for 670 yards and seven TDs this fall. Junior receivers Luke DeVorak and Trent Whiting have caught passes for 204 and 201 yards, respectively. A salty Des Arc defense allows an average of 14 ppg with junior linebacker Taylor Warren recording 67 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions and two caused fumbles. Senior J.C. Eldridge (63 tackles, five pass breakups) has flourished the past two games with 11 and 15 stops. Des Arc starts four seniors on offense and five on defense.
Carlisle counters with a huge Class 2A line: senior Ryan Simmons (6-0, 270), senior Raheem Walker (5-11, 250), senior Phillip Lightsey (6-2, 280) and junior Cody Stivers (5-9, 230), who bench presses 360 pounds. Senior RB Ben Walker has rushed for a team-high 500 yards behind that line. Senior linebacker Caleb Carpenter leads the Bison in tackles. Carlisle seeks its first win at Des Arc in the Coach Scott Waymire era (2006-present).

LAST WEEK
Hooten's correctly picked 22 of 24 games (92 percent) involving Class 2A teams. HAFR is 143-37 (79 percent) for the season.
WEEK 7 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS followed by point spread)
3-2A
AUGUSTA (1) at McCrory: McCrory getting healthy and on a roll, knocking off Marked Tree two weeks ago and Cedar Ridge 34-6 last week. Augusta senior TB Ishma Clark managed just 68 yards on 23 carries last week at No. 3 Magnet Cove. Highlights will be featured on Hooten's Arkansas Football TV show at 11 a.m. Saturday on Fox 16 and next week on hootens.com
Cedar Ridge at E. POINSETT COUNTY (10): EPC should be rested after an open week. Cedar Ridge managed one score last week in a 34-6 loss to improving McCrory.
Salem at MARKED TREE (6): Marked Tree has dropped back-to-back games to McCrory 30-26 and to Walnut Ridge 35-6, but junior RB Thadious Moore exploded for 387 yards and four TDs in those losses. Salem has lost five straight since opening with a 38-6 win over Class 4A Jonesboro Westside. Salem's offense has blossomed the past two weeks with 26 points against Walnut Ridge and 28 points last week in an overtime loss at Cross County.
Jonesboro Westside at WALNUT RIDGE (7): No. 20 Walnut Ridge's one loss came to EPC 54-35. The Walnut Ridge backfield of sophomore RB Eric Wilcoxson, sophomore QB Payton Poole and junior Teague Phillips combined for 32 carries and 295 yards last week in a 35-32 win over Marked Tree.
CROSS COUNTY is open.
4-2A
DANVILLE (35) at Union Christian: Danville left little doubt about the No. 2 team in the 4-2A with its 34-6 win last week at Mountainburg, which had allowed just three TDs going into the game. Danville junior QB Mike Jiles passed for three TDs and ran for another score at Mountainburg. Highlights will be featured on Hooten's Arkansas Football TV show at 11 a.m. Saturday on Fox 16 and KFSM TV 5 and next week on hootens.com.
MAGAZINE (45) at Hartford: Magazine in the 4-2A driver's seat and plays host to Mountainburg Week 9. If the Rattlers claim the top playoff seed, they'll get a first-round bye and likely play host to Strong or Junction City in the second round. Junction City beat Magazine 56-0 last year in the state semifinals.
MOUNTAINBURG (3) at Hackett: Mountainburg could not catch Danville's speedy skilled players a week ago (in a 34-6 loss), but it should slow down Hackett and senior RB Dakota McBride. McBride ran for 145 yards and four TDs last week in a 47-22 win at Union Christian.
Western Yell at DECATUR (2): Decatur notches second win of 2010 after sitting out 2009 season.
Hector at J.C. WESTSIDE (12): Junior wingback Corey Holt paced J.C. Westside last week with 11 carries for 127 yards in a 42-7 blowout of Hartford.
5-2A
Hector at J.C. WESTSIDE (12): Junior wingback Corey Holt paced J.C. Westside last week with 11 carries for 127 yards in a 42-7 blowout of Hartford.
MAGNET COVE (18) at Bigelow: No. 3 Magnet Cove showed the separation between Class 2A's title contenders and pretenders last week with a 35-6 blowout of then-No. 15 Augusta. Bigelow is quietly 4-0 in league play but those four teams have a combined record of 7-17. Highlights will be featured on Hooten's Arkansas Football TV show at 11 a.m. Saturday on Fox 16 and next week on hootens.com.
Poyen at CONWAY CHRISTIAN (9): Poyen junior John Whyatt has rushed for 350 yards over past two weeks. But can upstart Poyen slow down Conway Christian's senior backfield of QB Kirby Powell and RBs Adam Ragland and Bates Isom?
QUITMAN (18) at Two Rivers: Quitman ties last year's win total (three) just in time with Magnet Cove and Mountainburg left on its schedule.
JUNCTION CITY (14) at Mountain Pine: No. 7 Junction City averages 289 yards, 29 points and two turnovers per game. Top-ranked Bearden held Junction City to eight first downs and 102 yards on 33 plays a week ago.
6-2A
Carlisle at DES ARC (2): See the Game of the Week. Highlights will be featured on Hooten's Arkansas Football TV show at 11 a.m. Saturday on Fox 16 and next week on hootens.com.
HAZEN (6) at Clarendon: Clarendon takes its second shot at a 6-2A favorite. The Lions lost to Carlisle 52-20 Week 5, and they will play host to Des Arc in the regular-season finale. Clarendon needs even more big plays on defense and special teams from QB/FS Jamarlin Jackson, who returned an interception 90 yards and a punt 54 yards for TDs last week at Marvell.
Hughes at ENGLAND (41): England has lost to Des Arc 42-28 and to Carlisle 46-15. England travels to Clarendon next week with the No. 4 playoff spot on the line. The No. 5 seed likely heads to top-ranked Bearden in the first round.
Marvell at PALESTINE-WHEATLEY (16): P-W mauled Marvell 34-0 last year.
7-2A
Dierks at MOUNT IDA (6): Mount Ida scored 28 points Week 4 at Mineral Springs and 29 Week 5 against Foreman, but No. 2 Spring Hill shut out visiting Mount Ida 35-0 last week. Dierks is a victory short of last year's three-win season. Dierks last won just two games in 1998.
Gurdon at SPRING HILL (21): Spring Hill senior RB Rodrea Jones slowed with a sprained ankle last week against Mount Ida, but no problem. Senior fullback Colton Capps (6-2, 200) rushes 18 times for 120 yards and three TDs in a 35-6 win.
Horatio at MINERAL SPRINGS (10): Murfreesboro handled Horatio 41-28 Week 5. Mineral Springs took down Murfreesboro 44-29 last week. Mineral Springs averages 500 yards and 47.5 ppg.
MURFREESBORO (38) at Foreman: No. 21 Murfreesboro appears headed for the No. 3 playoff seed with a loss to Mineral Springs and its regular-season finale at No. 2 Spring Hill. The 7-2A third seed has a nice draw and a realistic shot at reaching the quarterfinals.
8-2A
Dermott at BEARDEN (49): No. 1 Bearden drove 77 yards in 15 running plays (11 by junior QB Defonta Lowe) without attempting a pass on its first drive last week en route to a 35-8 win over Junction City. Bearden rolled up 328 yard and 20 first downs while holding Junction City 102 yards and eight first downs.
NORPHLET (1) at Woodlawn: Norphlet's young Leopards had last week off while injury-depleted Woodlawn scrapped for four quarters in a 39-20 loss at Parkers Chapel. Both Woodlawn RBs Ryan Dorsett and Robert Pevey topped 100 yards at Parkers Chapel. Norphlet upset Parkers Chapel 14-13 Week 5.
PARKERS CHAPEL (42) at Hermitage: A week after a discouraging loss to Norphlet, PC senior QB Zach Abbot accounted for 295 yards and five TDs in a 39-20 win over Woodlawn.
STRONG (12) at Hampton: What can Strong do for a encore after knocking off Junction City Week 5? Win out to claim the No. 2 playoff seed and grab a home playoff berth for the first time since reaching the state quarterfinals in 1995.
JUNCTION CITY (14) at Mountain Pine: No. 7 Junction City averages 289 yards, 29 points and two turnovers per game. Top-ranked Bearden held Junction City to eight first downs and 102 yards on 33 plays a week ago.
