HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
2-3A (3) No. 11 ATKINS (8-2) at 7-3A (3) No. 14 Prescott (7-3)
Atkins travels to Prescott for a first-round matchup featuring teams ranked in the top 15. Atkins enters the postseason after a loss to Mayflower last Friday night, its second of the season, the other coming against No. 1 Salem back in Week 6. The Red Devils have outscored opponents 379-107 this season, averaging more than 37 points per game. The only teams to hold them below that mark were Salem and Mayflower. Atkins’ firepower will provide a challenge for Prescott. The Curley Wolves rebounded from consecutive losses to beat Centerpoint 40-14, racking up 435 total yards, 363 of those coming on the ground. They were led by KJ Page (13-249 rushing, 5 TDs), Kayden Gleason (8-46 rushing), and Javion Dixon (3-49 rushing). The run game was complemented by the passing of Desmond Prater (7-16 passing, 72 yards, 1 TD; 7-21 rushing). Prater connected with Owen Glass (3-40 receiving), Roderick McKinney (2-26 receiving, 1 TD), and Amario Monk (1-12 receiving). Prescott’s only home loss came to fourth-ranked Bismarck, and this first-round matchup has the makings of a close, hard-fought battle. The only previous meeting between these programs came in the second round of the 3A Playoffs in 2007 when Prescott defeated Atkins 48-14 at home. Expect a much closer matchup this time.
